A Blooz Berry is a special kind of artist found only in Northen Ontario’s small towns. They are grown in a culture rich in musical influences and mixed with the roots of traditional folk, blues, country, jazz and rock ‘n’ roll. It was when five of these Berries performed together that a great recipe for the northern blues was born.
The irrepressible singer and guitarist, Wayne Faulconer has as ability to write and perform original material as well as rearrange vintage blues hits to create a new sound. His soulful performances as a singer and musician have earned Wayne four charted recordings and a C.C.M.A. nomination for Outstanding Vocal performance. But it is as a “Blusician” with The Blooz Berries that the energy and love for his craft is truly evident.
The Blooz Berries come together to create a truly Canadian blues sound using a combination of traditional and electric instrumentation. To accomplish this you need a few important ingredients. First, a rhythm section that’s rock solid: John Stadtlander on drum kit, hand drums and percussion and Carol Pominville on five-string bass. To round out a truly Canadian blooz sound, mix the international tones of the accordion masterfully played by Johnny Scaffeo, with the crying Celtic, high energy violin sounds of Olivia Korkola. Sonia Christine brings a blues voice steeped with the sound of a gospel singer. Sonia and Wayne combine their voices in blues duets with harmony arrangements to give The Blooz Berries a truly Northern Ontario blues sound. The Blooz Berries…Pure Canadian Jam!
